Our history

THE BEGINNING

Our story begins with José Manuel and Mila, the couple who founded Roque Artesanos. For a long time, they dedicated themselves to the artisan bakery in Castalla, their home town, learning everything they needed to know about the trade. And they became more and more passionate about it every day. At the beginning of the seventies, and after all those years of experience, they decided to open their own bakery together. Their three children, José, Tito and Eva also did their bit whenever they could, which made this new path a real family business.

Little by little, the people of Castalla became familiar with the new business and trusted its artisan products. And as was customary in the small towns at the time, the customers became an active part of the family business. On important dates, such as Easter, Moors and Christians Festivals or Christmas, it was customary for the women to make their pastries at home and take them to the bakeries to bake them. Thanks to these traditions and the generosity of many people in the village, some of these old recipes became part of José Manuel and Mila's recipe book, which we have preserved to this day.

For this reason, we are aware that a large part of the essence of Roque Artesanos lies in this feeling of familiarity and community that our customers have given us over the years. What we are now is thanks to the effort and enthusiasm of the founding family, but also to all the people who have placed their trust in Roque Artesanos and made it their own.

EVOLUTION

Since its creation, José Manuel, Mila and their three children have worked hard in the new bakery to keep their passion alive. Thanks to this effort, in 1993 they were able to open a small shop in an area of the town that was beginning to expand, thus expanding their business.

Time and circumstances led José, the eldest son of the family, to take over the business in 2002 with his wife, Belén. Since then, both have strived to keep alive the passion and dedicationwith which José's parents founded the business, preserving the values and tradition that define it. Their motivation, which they transmit and spread in everything they do, is crystal clear: Roque Artesanos continues to be what it was from the beginning, a small, family-run, artisan business.

Today, we are proud to go on counting on the invaluable support of Mila, our founder. Despite being retired, her incredible vitality and her endless desire to work and help are still essential at Roque Artesanos. And for this reason, we also remember with special affection José Manuel, our founder, who is still present in every smile we manage to bring out in our customers.

NOWADAYS

In 2008 our bakery obtained the Craft Qualification of the Valencian Community after passing exhaustive controls certifying that our products are truly artisan. This represents our commitment to tradition, which we care for and maintain at every stage of the process. Thus, when you taste a loaf of bread or a pastry made in our bakery, it is easy to recall your childhood.

And with this same philosophy, we have been incorporating new products and flavours, adapting to the tastes and needs of our customers, but keeping our artisan essence intact. And we love the result: we offer the best of tradition and the best of innovation.

Likewise, our desire to work and our eagerness to continue learning have encouraged us to break new ground at Roque Artesanos. In 2014 we had the opportunity to offer a tasting of our products at the 34th edition of Fitur in Madrid, expanding our passion and our flavours even further.

OUR FUTURE

In the Internet age, the concepts of time and distance have been reinvented. And although at Roque Artesanos we want to maintain the artisan tradition, we believe that this is not incompatible with new technologies and the advantages they offer. We know that in order to improve every day and share our philosophy with more people it is essential to keep up to date. So, we have joined this virtual window, trusting that the passion, knowledge and know-how that we have learned during our 50 years of experience can reach more people.

From now on, you can get to know us and contact us no matter how far away you are. Welcome to Roque Artesanos!

Our philosophy

At Roque Artesanos we do not share the growing trend of mass production, which prioritizes quantity over quality. Our priority is to make with the calm and dedication it requires every product we offer.

When something is authentic, people recognize and value it. And this is our best asset, which motivates us to continue betting on and preserving our handicrafts, to continue prioritizing the quality and particularity of our products.
